Mitchum deodorant is a brand that’s been around since 1959 and has been a big hit for decades. Although over the years it’s often been wrongly associated with the American actor Robert Mitchum, who has nothing to do with the product, it has also helped consumers hold back body odor and perspiration. It’s no wonder it’s been around for so long.
Another thing worth mentioning about this deodorant is that while people believe they are familiar with this product and its packaging, the truth is that this deodorant comes in not one single incarnation. In fact, it comes in a number of different varieties, and all of them are worth checking out. To prove our point, we’ve listed below the top deodorants made by Mitchum.

The Ultimate Guide To Mitchum Deodorants
It seems like Mitchum consistently ranks in the top ten deodorants that people prefer. At one point in time, it would fly off the store shelves because it was so desirable. Although in recent years brands such as Old Spice and Degree have given Mitchum some stiff competition, they’re still managing to hold their own. That’s why we decided to find out all we could about this iconic brand and share it with our readers today.
The History Of Mitchum Deodorants
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Mitchum sisters would come across a formula for a skin cream that could be used to bleach freckled skin. This was a monumental find for the four sisters because alabaster skin was prized among women at the time, so a product that could be used to get rid of freckles was a very desirable cosmetic item. It would enjoy brisk sales, and they enjoyed a nice profit from it. Eventually, Nell Mitchum would get married to William Warren, and she brought her skin cream with her to the marriage. Impressed by the brisk sales the cream enjoyed, William Warren would start the Paris Toilet Company with his wife’s brothers-in-law and his father.
In 1928, they changed the name of the company to Golden Peacock. This company would go on to sell a variety of products, including their coveted Golden Peacock Shampoo and enjoyed great success over the years. However, one of the founder’s son’s, Mitchum Warren, grew extremely tired of being asked by people if his family’s company manufactured toilets, so he decided to change the name of the company. He decided on the name Mitchum not only because it was his first name but also because it was his mother’s maiden name.
In 1957, Mitchum Warren would hire Bill McNutt and give him the job of formulating new products. And one of those products that Mr. Warren wanted Mr. McNutt to formulate was an antiperspirant that was capable of controlling both body odor and perspiration but does it without staining or damaging clothing. He also advised Mr. McNutt to make sure the product was translucent, didn’t have a scent and was also attractively packaged. It took Mr. McNutt awhile to get the formula right but when he did, it became an enormously popular product. In fact, it was so popular that it changed the United States from a country that favored deodorants to one that favors antiperspirants. It also made the Mitchum Company extremely successful.
Unfortunately, Mitchum Warren wouldn’t get a chance to fully enjoy the success of his flagship product, because he would die in 1967. He was only 59-years of age. Although the company enjoyed brisk success over the next few years following Mitchum’s death, the company would eventually be sold to Revlon—a company that’s owned it ever since.
What Ingredients Are In Mitchum Deodorant?

Both of these ingredients are used to stop the sweat glands from producing sweat and as such, give Mitchum deodorants their antiperspirant quality.
Is Mitchum Deodorant Named After Robert Mitchum?
